Design challenge:
design an artwork which embodies a part of the book that most resonates with you.
This artwork embodies Wynton Marsails’ quote from Moving To Higher Ground : “Music is the Art of the Invisible”. The author explores the lessons that come out of the art of observing, listening and participating in jazz.
Inspired by this quote, I began by sketching the initial concepts, focusing on the idea of hidden elements revealing themselves upon closer inspection. The negative space plays a crucial role by forming a musical note subtly guided by instruments’ eyes.
During the creative process I had the opportunity to consult my work with graphic designer Katarzyna Pustoła who suggested to make better use of the empty space. While some empty space remains which does not contribute any meaning, the addition of a french hron balances the composition, enhancing the intention of it.
